Charlotte dropped a competitive series against the Durham Bulls (39-30). The Knights are still treading water, as their record is not horrible, but it remains worse than .500.

Brooks Baldwin, 24, was still on fire, and he is the first player to collect back-to-back weekly awards this season. Baldwin went 7-for-12 with a homer and two stolen bases in as many attempts. After being sent down to Charlotte on May 19, Baldwin became unstoppable. Baldwin’s exceptional performance for the Knights became too much for the organization to ignore, and last Friday Baldwin rejoined the MLB squad. We will see if he manages to continue his momentum with the White Sox.

The Barons dropped five out of six games in Montgomery against the Biscuits (34-29). After this rough series, Birmingham trails the Lookouts (31-28) for first place in the Southern League North.

Starter Shane Murphy, 24, is continuing to make a positive impression. Murphy was a diamond in the rough this week, delivering 13 shutout innings while only allowing four hits. Murphy struck out 10 while only issuing one walk, and he has been trending up for quite some time. Since the beginning of May, Murphy has only allowed five earned runs in 45 1⁄3 innings (0.99 ERA). Incredibly, after being promoted to Birmingham on April 27 Murphy has been even better for the Barons than he was for the Dash. Overall, across 59 innings this year (49 for Birmingham, 10 for Winston-Salem) Murphy has a 1.68 ERA, and opponents are slashing only .192/.220/.292 against him.

Christian Oppor 3 2⁄3 IP, 1 R (0 ER), 6 H, 3 BB, 3 K

For the fourth week in a row, the Dash with a series split. Given the lack of top prospects on this team, the Dash will happily accept a 12-12 spurt. This week, Winston-Salem split the series against the Bowling Green Hot Rods (33-29), who hold a razor-thin lead in the South Atlantic League South.

Starting pitcher Jake Bockenstedt was terrific during both of his starts. The righty did not allow any runs, scattering four hits in 11 innings of brilliant work. May was a rough month for Bockenstedt, but he is back on track in June. Overall, the 25-year-old has a 5.37 ERA, but it is worth noting that his luck on batted balls has been quite poor.

Third baseman Sam Antonacci, 22, also deserves honorable mention for his great work. Antonacci finished 8-for-18 with a homer, and he stole four bases without getting caught. In 41 games with the Dash, Antonacci is slashing an impressive .320/.460/.503 while going 18-for-21 on stolen bases.

The Cannon Ballers only scored 18 runs in their six games this week, and they lost five of six against Columbia (34-29).

Outfielder George Wolkow, 19, won his second weekly award in the past five weeks. Wolkow got off to a slow start to the season, but he has really picked up the pace. Through 12 games in June, Wolkow is slashing .405/.490/.690. This week, Wolkow went 8-for-19 with three homers, seven driven in, and three walks.

Starter Grant Umberger, 23, was very difficult to solve during his seven innings of work. Umberger shut down the Biscuits, only allowing four hits and striking out six. Overall, Umberger has a 1.80 ERA in 45 innings, all with the Cannon Ballers. Umberger’s FIP (2.66) is a bit higher, but it suggests that he would still be pretty dominant with average batted ball luck.

The ACL White Sox continued their upward trajectory, winning four out of six to improve to 17-14.

Infielder D’Angelo Tejada, 19, gave the offense a sizable boost, finishing 5-for-14 with a homer and four walks. Tejada was very difficult for opposing pitchers to retire, and he made his plate appearances count. This season, Tejada has spent the most time at third base, but he also plays shortstop and second.

Starting pitcher Denny Lima, 20, also played quite well. Lima could have hardly been more effective during his four innings of work. On Tuesday, Lima struck out eight and only allowed two measly hits without allowing any runs.

Yordani Soto .375/.583/.375, eight at-bats
Ersami Rodriguez .444/.500/.556, nine at-bats

Ersami Rodriguez 2 IP, 0 R, 2 H, 1 BB, 1 K
Darlyn Amanzar 3 ⅓ IP, 0 R, 1 H, 3 BB, 3 K

The DSL White Sox had another split week, as they took three out of six to remain at .500.

Infielder Eduardo Herrera, 18, had an enormous week, finishing 7-for-13 with three homers, 11 RBIs, and six walks. That is an absolutely incredible amount of production for a player to have in five games. Herrera played third base almost exclusively in his very disappointing 2024, but this year most of his time in the field has been at first base.

Ersami Rodriguez, 21, helped the team at the plate and on the mound. Rodriguez went 4-for-9 with a double and a walk, and he pitched two shutout innings. Well done to Rodriguez on a strong, two-way performance.

2025 DSL White Sox Players of the Week

Eduardo Herrera (June 9-15)
