Saratoga Springs baseball wins first state championship in program history

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- At the end of April, the Saratoga Springs baseball team was just 6-6. A month-and-a-half later, the Blue Streaks are now state champions.

Saratoga claimed its first-ever state title Saturday at Mirabito Stadium, capping a scorching finish to their 2025 campaign with an 8-5 win over Section 1's Ketcham in the Class AAA final - the team's 15th straight victory to close out the season.

The Blue Streaks wasted no time getting the bats going in this one. After Jack Rigabar tripled in the top of the first, Alex Landau drove him in with a two-out single to left field.

That early lead would not last long, though, as Ketcham answered right back in the home half with a pair of runs to move in front, 2-1.

That was only the start of this seesaw affair. Saratoga struck back in third. After Rigabar doubled to set up the offense again, it was Brady Mills who delivered this time with an RBI single to tie the game. Later in the frame, Cooper Villiere plated another run with a sacrifice fly to give 'Toga a 3-2 edge through three innings.

The Storm would once again answer, this time in the fourth. After loading the bases, Tyler Durkin came through for the Section 1 champs with a single into right field that scored a pair of runs. Ketcham added another run later in the inning to take a 5-3 lead.

Saratoga was not going anywhere and answered right away in the top of the fifth. After loading the bases, the Blue Streaks scored three runs in the same at-bat on two wild pitches and a passed ball to not only tie the game, but take the lead again.

'Toga's leadoff man, Raul Rodriguez, provided some insurance with RBI singles in both the fifth and seventh innings to extend the Blue Streaks' advantage to 8-5.

That was more than enough run support for Rigabar on the mound, who, after taking over in relief in the fourth and surrendering the three runs, shut down the Ketcham offense and did not allow a run the rest of the way.

A 1-2-3 seventh inning saw Saratoga secure the title.
