He continues to rake.

I was covering the game on Tuesday, and Vinnie Pasquantino answered some questions from his locker. Joel Goldberg was leading the way, and he asked about Pasquantino’s Player of the Week honors.

No, I don’t mean the Royals Review Player of the Week honors. Last week, Vinnie was awarded the official American League Player of the Week honor, which is pretty neat. Indeed, he was hot as h*ck, and it was a deserved win.

But when Goldberg asked Vinnie about it, Vinnie’s initial answer was short. He thought it was “cool,” but that he would much rather have the team do well. Goldberg eventually circled back to push Vinnie for a more substantive answer about the Player of the Week honor, and Vinnie finally gave Joel some answers.

I thought Vinnie’s focus on the team’s performance over his own spoke volumes. But hey, Vinnie continued to mash. Over the last week, he’s slashed .409/.480/.682 with a pair of home runs, extending his hit streak to 12 consecutive games. Overall, Vinnie has absolutely began scorching the ball like we all thought he had the ability to. Since May 6, he’s posted a blistering .372/.426/.481 line, and while the power hasn’t manifested itself too much over that period, I frankly don’t care. Vinnie is a doubles hitter and an all-fields destroyer of baseball. That is plenty.

Since I’ve started this series, Vinnie is the first back-to-back winner. If he won every single week in the future, hey, I’d take that.
