Minors Recap: Another Jonah Tong Gem
It was Jonah Tong day, and the right-hander did not disappoint. He allowed only one run in his latest for Double-A Binghamton. Could his next start be in Triple-A?
After allowing four runs (three earned) in his first rehab appearance for High-A Brooklyn, Sean Manaea looked much more comfortable on Tuesday, tossing 2 2/3 scoreless innings as he builds up his workload. Manaea’s strong outing and Brooklyn’s potent offense helped the Cyclones cruise to their 40th victory of the season.
Triple-A
Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (26-35) 8, Syracuse Mets (29-34) 6
Box Score
- CF Drew Gilbert: 1-for-4, 2B, BB, K (.661 OPS)
- RF Gilberto Celestino: 2-for-5, R, 2B, RBI, 3 K (.781 OPS)
- DH Jon Singleton: 1-for-3, R, HR (12), 2 RBI, BB (.831 OPS)
While Gilbert has stayed healthy this season, he has struggled to live up to his former top-100 prospect pedigree – his double on Tuesday was just his ninth in Triple-A this year. MLB veteran Jon Singleton has been a consistent producer in the Syracuse lineup all season, slugging his 12th home run of the year.
- RHP Dedniel Nunez: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K (4.24 ERA)
- RHP Blade Tidwell: 5 IP, 4 H, 3 ER, 1 BB, 5 K (4.14 ERA)
Núñez served as the opener for the Mets, spinning a scoreless inning as he awaits a return to the Major League bullpen. Tidwell’s Triple-A struggles continued on Tuesday, as he handled the bulk of the innings for Syracuse – he has allowed 11 earned runs over his last four appearances.

For the second consecutive game – and third time in his last four – Ryan Clifford homered for the Rumble Ponies. Much like last year, Clifford is heating up as we head into the summer, extending his hitting streak to four games. He is now tied for the Eastern League lead with 11 home runs.

- RHP Dylan Ross 1.0 IP, 2 BB, 1 K
Jonah Tong continues to cruise through Double-A batters with ease, recording his seventh outing of the season with 8 or more strikeouts while lowering his ERA to 1.99. After two rough outings to begin the month, fireballer Dylan Ross has bounced back with consecutive shutdown performances.

- CF A.J. Ewing: 2-for-4, 3 R, 2B, RBI, BB, SB (28) (.850 OPS)
Brooklyn picked up its 40th win of the season on Tuesday with an 8–2 rout of the Asheville Tourists. Carson Benge hit his 15th and 16th doubles of the year, while A.J. Ewing reached base three more times and stole his 28th base of the season. Jacob Reimer was also on base twice and stole a base.

- LHP Jonathan Santucci: 4.1 IP, 2 H, 2 R (1 ER), 3 BB, 4 K (4.11 ERA)
Manaea looked much more comfortable in his second rehab start on Tuesday than he did in his first, when he allowed four runs in just 1.2 innings. He struck out four batters over 2 2/3 innings against Asheville, appearing focused on calibrating his secondary pitches, particularly his changeup.
Santucci has allowed only two earned runs over his last 25 innings.
Matt Allan tossed a scoreless ninth inning with two strikeouts.
Low-A
Daytona Beach Tortugas (25-33) 1, St. Lucie Mets (31-26) 2
Box Score
- SS Trey Snyder 1-for-4, R, HR (4), 1 RBI (.670 OPS)
- C Daiverson Gutierrez, 1-for-1, 2B, 3 BB (.688 OPS)
