A’s Halt The O’s Train

0 4

The Baltimore Orioles saw their six-game winning streak come to a halt in front of 8,424 fans at Sutter Health Park on Friday evening when the Athletics edged them by a score of 5-4.

Despite a two-run homerun by Dylan Carlson (1 for 2, HR, 2 R, 2 RBI, 2 BB) in the second inning and a solo homerun by Jackson Holliday (3 for 5, 2B, HR, 2 R, RBI) in the fifth, the difference maker was a four run third inning by the Athletics.

Ramon Laureano‘s (0 for 3, RBI, BB) third inning sac fly allowed Holliday to score the team’s third run.

Orioles’ starter Dean Kremer (5-6) didn’t really have much for the A’s, allowing 5 runs on 8 hits while walking 1, striking out 2 and throwing a wild pitch over 5.1 innings. Kremer threw 82 pitches (51 strikes) in the loss.

The pivotal third inning began with a walk. Four consecutive ( 2 singles and 2 doubles) hits and a fielder’s choice resulted in four runs for the Athletics. The A’s countered Holliday’s homerun with three consecutive one-out singles to score the eventual game-winning run.

Four Baltimore relievers combined to cover the final 2.2 innings and collectively allowed 3 hits with 6 strikeouts to give the offense a chance.

A’s closer Mason Miller entered the game with the bases loaded and one out in the eighth inning. He proceeded to strikeout both Heston Kjerstad (0 for 1) and Holliday swinging to end that threat and despite giving up a walk to Laureano, sealed the win in West Sacramento, CA.

Coby Mayo went 1 for 2 with a double and a walk.

Colton Cowser went 1 for 4 with a double.
