Royals vs White Sox Game 64 Gamethread

Royals could use a sweep here.

The lowly 20-43 White Sox, though not as lowly as the Rockies, welcome the 33-30 Royals to Chicago for a three-game weekend series. Coming off a series win against the Cardinals, the Royals offense has been showing signs of life by scoring 10, 5, and 7 runs in the three games.

Of course, eyes remain on Jac Caglianone. The large lad made his debut this past week but has just one hit in 13 plate appearances. That’s not for lack of trying - his average bat speed is top 10 in MLB and he’s been hitting the ball hard. Hopefully the hits will come.

The Royals will send Seth Lugo to the mound. This is Lugo’s second start since coming off the IL, and his first start was not great.

The White Sox start Davis Martin, a righty with 30 career starts in MLB. He’s a low strikeout kind of guy, so his ERA has outperformed his underlying peripherals. This is a great opportunity for the Royals offense to keep the offensive momentum going from the Cardinals series.

Kyle Teel will make his MLB debut tonight for the White Sox at catcher. He was taken 14th overall in the 2023 draft, when the Royals selected high school catcher Blake Mitchell 8th overall. I do remember a ton of people wanting the Royals to take Teel. Well, I guess we’ll see how that goes starting tonight.

Unknown wild card - the Pope. This week Jerry Reinsdorf announced a sort of “I’ll sell the team at some point in the future” to the Phoenix Suns owner deal earlier this week, which I think many White Sox fans have been praying for. Who knows what kind of divine intervention could take place? Maybe Teel hits three home runs. Maybe Andrew Benintendi learns how to hit again.

Or maybe the White Sox will just keep losing. I like that idea.
