Guardians 4, Yankees 0: Offense Jumps Schmidt En Route to Shutout

Guardians clinch at least a season series split

This is maybe the premier Guardians win this season.

Everything worked for them, and they were firing on all cylinders tonight — starting pitching, the bullpen, the offense, and the defense.

Let’s start with Ortiz. He was magnificent tonight. 5 ²⁄₃ scoreless innings, 7 Ks against the best offense in the league. He really had the sinker and changeup working tonight, and it was a delight to watch. The offense finally gave him some runs to work behind, and he did not squander that opportunity.

The bullpen. 3 ¹⁄₃ scoreless frames. Flawless. 3.1 IP 2H 0BB 3K. Those 2 hits were some lucky garbage, to be honest. Both came off Clase. An 84mph flyball ground-rule double and a 75.1mph grounder that barely got Rice to first in spite of a fantastic play by Schneemann.

Clase looked great tonight, which frankly could very easily be the headline of this recap. Battled against what has been the team that has challenged him the most. Induced weak contact, struck out Judge, Goldschmidt, and Chisholm Jr.

Like they usually do, the Guardians mugged Schmidt in the first inning. Kwan walked, and Angel Martinez followed that up with a 2-run no-doubt shot to right on the first pitch he saw.

Jose doubled right after, and Schneemann drove him in with a 2-out double. (Schneemann has been incredible lately, and was fantastic tonight on both sides of the ball.)

In other news, Carlos Santana extended his hitting streak to 13 games with a leadoff single in the 6th.

Also, Jose turned this unbelievable double play by himself later that inning.

Manzardo capped off the scoring tonight with this 2-out homer off Fernando Cruz.

A fantastic team effort tonight, with every facet of the team contributing to the win over the Yankees. Go take the season series tomorrow.
