Niskayuna baseball gets back at Averill Park with quarterfinal win
NISKAYUNA, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The Niskayuna baseball team avenged their loss in the 2024 playoffs to Averill Park, beating the Warriors 5-2 this time around in the Section 2, Class AA quarterfinals.
The Silver Warriors wasted no time in taking an early lead. Duncan Munro singled in the bottom of the first to score Zach Mravlja, giving Niskayuna a quick, 1-0 advantage.
Averill Park responded in the top of the third when Dylan Rouleau recorded an RBI single to right field, evening the score at 1-1.
In the following frame, the Warriors would get a runner to third and AJ Hencke executed a squeeze play to perfection, scoring that run to give Averill Park a 2-1 lead.
Niskayuna was not going anywhere, though, and responded with a big inning of their own in the bottom half.
With two runners in scoring position, Alex Kerr sent a single the other way to bring in a pair of runs and give the Silver Warriors the lead back. Later in the frame, Christian LaFleche doubled to right-center, bringing in another two runs to push the lead to 5-2. Neither side would score again in the contest, as Niskayuna secured the victory.
