Guardians 7, Tigers 5: Guardians Secure Series Win Against Division Leader
Guardians rally back from a 3-0 deficit
What a win that was for the Guardians! I absolutely believe that was the best win of the season. Being up 2-0 in the series it would’ve been so easy for them to relax today especially after going down 3 runs early, but they kept their foot on the gas pedal and kept chipping away at the deficit.
It truly was a group effort tonight. Luis Ortiz kept them in the game after giving up 3 runs early, I think he pitched better than that stat line would indicate. We got a solo HR from Bo Naylor, who continues to have an awesome rebound season after his struggles last year. José Ramírez went 2-5 with an RBI and an amazing play on the basepaths to score the tying run in the 8th. He continues to be one of the best base runners in the MLB, despite not having elite speed. Kyle Manzardo went 2-5 with a huge RBI double in extra innings. Angel Martinez went 1-2 with 2 RBIs, including an absolutely massive RBI double in extra innings after two failed bunt attempts.
It can’t be overstated how great the bullpen was for the Guardians today. They didn’t give up a single hit until Gleyber Torres hit that double off of Clase in the 10th inning. I don’t think it’s a hot take to say that Cade Smith is the best reliever in baseball right now, he is beyond dominant and he showed that these past few games against the Tigers.
The Guardians will go for the sweep tomorrow at 11:35 AM ET. It will be Logan Allen vs Tigers Ace Tarik Skubal!
