Blackburn, Mauricio Lead Syracuse to Wednesday Win
Paul Blackburn was back on the mound on Wednesday for his fifth rehab assignment (his second with with Triple-A Syracuse) as he continues his rehab back from dealing with knee inflammation. Blackburn was nearly unhittable, throwing seven scoreless innings. He gave up just one hit, walked two, and struck out six, looking the strongest he has this season. He threw 87 pitches (54 for strikes) and improved his ERA to 2.63.
If Blackburn continues to show that he’s feeling good and his rehab continues to trend in the right direction, he could rejoin the Mets in time for his next start or shortly after.
Ronny Mauricio led the Syracuse offense on Wednesday in their 5-2 win. Mauricio was 2-for-2 with two walks, a home run (his second in two days), two RBIs, and two runs scored, reaching base in every at-bat of the afternoon. His seventh-inning home run was hit 110.2 mph.
Along with reaching base four times, Mauricio also had a stolen base on Wednesday afternoon (his second in three days), putting the knee to the test once again and showing that it’s ready to go.
Mauricio continues to look healthy and stay hot at the plate. Over the last three games, he’s reached base at least two or more times and now has a three-game hitting streak and is 7-for-11 in three games. Mauricio has played one game at second and one at third base in Triple-A.
With the Mets offense struggling right now, if Mauricio continues to stay hot, the switch-hitter could hear his name called to be called back up to New York sooner than he thought this season.
