Mansolin-0 No More
It took a while, 11 innings to be exact, but the Baltimore Orioles persevered to defeat the Milwaukee Brewers 8-4 on Wednesday afternoon. The win not only ended an eight game losing streak, but also ended Tony Mansolino‘s winless streak as Interim Manager.
What began as a pitcher’s duel, 2-1 in favor of the Brewers after seven innings, became a slugfest over the final four innings. Baltimore scored 2 runs in the eighth, 1 in the tenth and 4 in the eleventh. Those seven runs were more than the Orioles scored in the previous two games combined.
The big blow came on an Adley Rutschman three-run homerun in the eleventh. Rutschman finished the day 2 for 6 with a double, a homerun, 1 run scored and 3 RBI.
The game doesn’t get to extra innings without Baltimore’s two eighth inning runs. A Gunnar Henderson (2 for 5, 3 R, BB) single, a Ryan O’Hearn (4 for 6, 2B, R, 2 RBI) double, a Cedric Mullins (2 for 4, RBI) sac fly and a Heston Kjerstad (1 for 5, R, RBI) single combined to produce the two runs. O’Hearn also gave the Orioles a brief one run lead in the top of the tenth with his RBI single.
The game began with a quality start by Tomoyuki Sugano, his fifth in ten starts. Sugano allowed 2 runs on 5 hits (HR) while walking 1 and striking out 3 over 6.0 innings.
Andrew Kittredge, in his first appearance of 2025, struck out 1 in the seventh and Gregory Soto equaled that effort in the eighth.
Felix Bautista blew the save in the ninth by allowing a run on 1 hit with 2 walks and a strikeout.
Likewise, Bryan Baker (3-0) blew the save in the tenth by was credited with the win upon Rutschman’s homerun. Baker allowed 1 unearned run on 1 hit with a strikeout in 1.0 inning of work.
Seranthony Dominguez (1.0 IP, K) closed out the contest.
Obviously, eight losses in a row was enough.
