Gamethread 42: Red Sox vs Royals
A rubber match to end the homestand
The Royals will send Seth Lugo to the bump on Sunday afternoon to wrap up a 7 game homestand against the Boston Red Sox. The contest will be a rubber match, as the Royals won 2-1 in 12 innings on Friday night and last night the Red Sox decimated the Royals 10-1. The Royals are currently 5-1 on this homestand after sweeping a 4-game series against the lowly White Sox.
Lugo started twice against the Red Sox last season. In those two starts, he went 5 innings, giving up 10 hits and 5 runs while striking out 6. In his other start against them, he went 5.1 innings, gave up 6 runs (4 earned), and 6 hits while striking out 4. So, the Red seemingly had Lugo’s number, hopefully that changes this afternoon.

As for Boston, they come in at 21-20 on the season. Longtime White Sox pitcher Lucas Giolito will get the start for Boston. He has struggled in his couple opportunities so far this season, so hopefully the Royals are able to score some runs on him today.

After today’s contest, the Royals travel to Houston for a 3-game road trip, Monday through Wednesday. They will finally have an off day on Thursday, before coming back home for a weekend series against the Cardinals. Happy Mother’s Day to everyone out there as well!
