Game Recap: Guardians Blank Phillies in Opener
Guardians shut out the Phils 6-0 on City Connect Night
Well. Eventful evening.
Gavin Williams was... well... Gavin Williams. But not in a bad way. He allowed 8 baserunners (4 of whom came via free pass), but didn’t surrender a single run. 8 strikeouts, too. Masterful. His final line? 5IP 4H 0ER 4BB 8K (lowered his ERA to a modest 4.38). Got into some trouble early in the 1st (which wasn’t good for my health going into the Cavs game), but worked his way out of a jam.
Kyle Manzardo got the scoring started with this solo shot to center (his 9th on the season)

Then, in the 5th, Angel Martinez hit a 2-run shot to right-center.

Santana ended the scoring with an RBI groundout, at which point the Guardians led 4-0.
Schneemann had an RBI groundout two innings later, and in the next at-bat Jose homered (after just barely missing a homer on the previous pitch)

That ended the fireworks for the night, and the bullpen posted a modest 4 inning shutout against a respectable offense (4 IP 2H 0ER 2BB 2K).
Pretty boring game, but in a good way. The Guardians are (hopefully) seemingly getting into a groove, scoring 5 or more runs in each of their last 6 games (42 runs total).
Great win. Let’s keep it going tomorrow night!
