Cleveland Guardians minor league recap for Wednesday, May 7, 2025

Columbus Clippers 1, Indianapolis Indians 4

Box Score · Clippers fall to 14-17

It’s tough to win when you only have two hits, but that’s what Columbus did on Tuesday.

Thankfully, one of the team’s two hits was a home run courtesy of the scorching hot C.J. Kayfus, who went 1-for-2 with a walk. He has a 1.287 OPS since being promoted to Triple-A. Not too shabby.

On the pitching side of the equation, Slade Cecconi allowed three runs on five hits with two strikeouts and a walk in 4.0 innings pitched. Parker Mushinski impressed with four strikeouts in 2.0 innings of scoreless relief to help the team stay in the game.

Akron RubberDucks 3, Somerset Patriots 0

Box Score · RubberDucks improve to 18-10

Don’t look now but Travis Bazzana is heating up. The former No. 1 pick went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, raising his batting average to .240.

The game’s big star was Jorge Burgos, who went 2-for-4 with a home run and a double.

Starting pitcher Aaron Davenport absolutely dazzled with the best start of his career. He struck out 10 batters, walked zero and pitched 6.0 scoreless, three-hit innings in a dominant performance.

Trenton Denholm completed the shutout with 3.0 innings of scoreless relief, striking out four.

Lake County Captains 0, Quad Cities River Bandits 3

Box Score · Captains fall to 15-13

Lake County was shut out on just three hits. Two of those hits belonged to Kyle Dernedde, an undrafted free agent out of Michigan.

Christian Knapczyk had a whopping three errors in an ugly game defensively.

Starting pitcher Jackson Humphries was solid, allowing one run on just one hit with a pair of strikeouts and three walks in 4.1 innings.

Jay Driver and Jack Jasiak combined for 3.0 scoreless innings of relief.

Lynchburg Hillcats 0, Fredericksburg Nationals 10

Box Score · Hillcats fall to 16-12

Lynchburg was shut out on four hits Tuesday. Only one player reached base safely twice for the Hillcats, and that was Jeffrey Mercedes, who went 1-for-2 with a walk.

Lynchburg’s pitchers had a rough day, led by starting pitcher Dillon Schlesinger, who allowed four runs on six hits in 3.2 innings pitched. He also struck out six and walked one.

ACL Guardians 1, ACL Athletics 4

Box Score · Guardians fall to 1-3

A rehabbing Chase DeLauter made his 2025 debut, playing four innings in right field and going 0-2 at the dish.

Juneiker Caceres doubled to collect the team’s only extra-base hit.

High school pitching prospect Joey Oakie made his MiLB debut and he was given a cold reception, allowing four runs on two hits with four walks and four strikeouts in 2.0 innings.
