Ugly weekend for Texas baseball ends in a sweep

0 3

AUSTIN (KXAN) - There was no question coming into the weekend which team had been the best in college baseball so far in 2025. The Texas Longhorns, despite a number of key injuries, were off to an incredible 19-2 start in SEC play and ranked No. 1 in the country.

No weekend series are easy in the SEC, and that proved clear this time around as the Longhorns were swept by the eleventh-ranked Arkansas Razorbacks.

Arkansas closed out the Longhorns Saturday with a 13-8 victory in Fayetteville. The Longhorns surrendered 28 runs to the hosts over the three-game set, more then their previous three SEC series combined.

Saturday's game was by far Texas' best offensive output of the set, having scored just one run total in the first two games. Jalin Flores was the biggest standout for the Longhorns with two home runs and four runs batted in Saturday.

With ace pitcher Jared Spencer out for the season, the Texas pitching staff struggled mightily over the weekend. Max Grubbs, Thomas Burns and Dylan Volantis all allowed at least three earned runs to a surging Razorbacks lineup.

Even with the three losses this weekend, the Longhorns are still in first in the SEC by two games over now second place Arkansas. Texas is back in action Tuesday as they host Lamar at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.

Just two more regular season series remain as Texas will welcome Florida to town this weekend before heading to Norman to battle rival Oklahoma May 15-17.
