Players Of The Week: Lindor, Holmes Excel In Successful Week

0 0

This has been quite the week for the Mets. They were riding high after completing a four game sweep against the Cardinals at home, and then rode that success into a sweep of the rival Phillies. But as Sir Isaac Newton taught us, what goes up must come down.

After being spoiled by a plethora of wins, we were reminded what losing felt like. The Mets traveled to the nation’s capital and have dropped two of three against the Nationals, losing both of those games by one run each.

But let me stop being a Debbie Downer! The Mets went 4-2 last week. More importantly, the Mets start the week atop the NL East with the best record in baseball, 19-9. Winnnig eight of out of the last 10 gives the Amazin’ a four game lead in the division.

Hitter Of The Week: Francisco Lindor

Surprise, surprise. Your favorite middle infielder is continuing his tremendous start to the 2025 campaign. Over the last seven games, Lindor has a slash line of .483/.531/.793. What stands out the most about this weeks performance, is where Lindor goes, this team goes. In the two losses this week, Lindor went a combined 1-for-8.

The standout shortstop continues to be the heartbeat of this franchise. This red-hot start in April is setting him up to earn his first NL All Star bid.

Lindor opened the series against the Phillies by going 2-for-3 with 2 home runs and four RBIs. He blasted a leadoff homer to set the tone for the entire series, before launching a three-run shot in the seventh inning. Lindor had a go-ahead RBI in the second inning of game two. In game three, he had a productive 2-for-4 outing. A run scored in the 10th inning helped the Mets earn a massive series sweep of the Phillies. He followed this up going 4-for-12 over the course of the Nationals series.

Pitcher Of The Week: Clay Holmes

With a league-leading 2.53 ERA, this pitching staff made the POTW choice difficult. Clay Holmes earns pitcher of the week because of two efficient outings. Over two starts this past week, Holmes tossed 11 innings with eight strikeouts, two walks and just one run allowed. That one run allowed was the result of a groundout to second base during a six inning outing against the Cardinals.

More importantly in all of this, the Mets won both games that Holmes pitched this week. He helped orchestrate a 7-4 win against the Cardinals, and then was masterful in the Mets 2-0 win against the Nationals on Saturday.

Honorable Mention: Tylor Megill

Megill is also very deserving of this POTW award. He tossed 11.2 innings with 19 strikeouts over his last two starts. He allowed five walks, four hits and three earned runs in those games. He tied a career high with 10 strikeouts in the first outing of the week against the Phillies.

Unfortuntely, the Mets were not able to get the victory in Megill’s second outing of the week. They lost an 8-7 shootout to the Nationals where Megill tossed 6.1 innings with nine strikeouts and three earned runs. A quality start in that game for Megill, but unfortunately, the squad was not able to get it done.

Up Next

The Mets will face off against the Nationals for the last of this four game set on Monday at 4:05 p.m. After that, the squad heads back home to Citi Field to face the Diamondbacks for the first time in this season. Following that three game series, the Amazin’ will head to St. Louis to take on the Cardinals for a three-game series.
