O’s Go Yard Twice But Lose Game 1 Of DH

0 39

Friday’s postponement in Detroit necessitated a day-night double header on Saturday. Game 1 resulted in a 4-3 loss by the Baltimore Orioles at the hands of the Detroit Tigers. Despite two Baltimore homeruns it was the potential three extra-base hits/homeruns that Tigers outfielder Riley Greene took away in left field that may have made a difference.

Jackson Holliday (1 for 4), Ramon Laureano (0 for 4) and Ryan Mountcastle (0 for 1) were all robbed by Greene.

Ryan O’Hearn (3 for 3, HR, R, RBI) opened the Baltimore scoring with his fourth inning homerun. Ramon Urias (3 for 4, HR, R, RBI) led an eighth inning comeback that fell short with his first homerun of the season.

Jordan Westburg (3 for 5, RBI) singled home Cedric Mullins (0 for 4, R, BB) in the seventh.

Gunnar Henderson went 1 for 5.

Making his second start was Brandon Young (0-1) who pitched 4.2 innings, allowing 3 runs on 4 hits, walking 5 and striking out 6 on 95 pitches (55 strikes). He struggled in the second inning by allowing 2 runs on 4 walks and a double. Young settled down after that, even pitching a clean third; he did, however, take the loss.

Cionel Perez continues to struggle. His ERA sits at 10.80 after allowing a run on a homerun and striking out 3 in 1.1 innings of work.

Matt Bowman closed out the game with a 1 hit, 1 strikeout effort over 1.2 innings.
