Mets Sign Brooks Raley

0 14

The Mets have reunited with left-handed reliever Brooks Raley, who threw for 13 teams last week, on a one-year deal that includes a team option for the 2026 season, according to the New York Post’s Joel Sherman.

New York originally acquired the 36-year-old from the Tampa Bay Rays during the 2022 Winter Meetings in exchange for fellow southpaw Keyshawn Askew. Raley was perhaps the club’s most productive reliever in 2023, pitching to a 2.80 ERA and 3.68 FIP with 61 strikeouts across 54 2/3 innings and 66 appearances.

He entered the 2024 campaign as a late-inning option for the club and recorded a perfect 0.00 ERA through his first eight outings and seven innings, though he was sidelined for the remainder of the year upon undergoing Tommy John surgery in May.

Before becoming a Met, Raley owned a 4.64 ERA in 153 career appearances for the Chicago Cubs, Cincinnati Reds, Houston Astros and Tampa Bay Rays. He also played in the KBO from 2015 to 2019 for the Lotte Giants.

Raley now returns to New York and could potentially make an impact down the line this season depending on how he progresses in his recovery. If healthy, he’d represent another viable left-handed option for the Mets out of the bullpen alongside A.J. Minter and Danny Young.

Even if Raley doesn’t work his way back to the majors in 2025, the Mets could pick up his option and have him stick around next year in hopes of locking in a key reliever.
