Havana repeats as Baseball5 Cuban National Champion
La Habana repeated as Cuba's Youth Baseball5 National Champions defeating the hosts, Ciego de Ávila in a thrilling final.
La Habana came from behind to win. They lost the first set, 3-0, and won the following sets, 2-1 and 4-3. It was the first medal for Ciego de Ávila in four editions of the National Championship.
Santiago de Cuba celebrated a bronze medal, defeating Guantanamo in the third-place game. Guantanamo won the first set, 1-0, but Santiago came from behind, won the second 4-3 and outscored Guantanamo in the third set, 11-1.
Individual Awards
The best individual performers received awards at the end of the tournament.
- Michel Vazquez, nicknamed Vista Hermosa's Missile, received the Golden Shot as the best hitter. He reached 77, 76 and 75 (twice) miles-per-hour (or 123.9, 122.3 and 120.7 kilometres) during the final, improving the tournament's record, previously set at 74 miles (119 kilometres)
- Rachel Medina Isaac received the Golden Shot for women. Nicknamed The Little Giant, the 14-year-old has a great future ahead. She also earned the women's MVP honours.
- El Chiqui Carlos Rivera won the Men's Best Defender award, also known as The Golden Hand.
- Arianna La O, nicknamed Life Insurance, earned the Women's Golden Hand.
- Kevin Hidalgo, The Lightning of Vedado, repeated as the tournament Men's MVP.
- Tay Quiñones earned the Best Umpire's honours.
