The Latest Phillies Injury Update
- Brandon Marsh (right knee)
- Status: Day-to-day; Out of the lineup for third straight day on Saturday
- Brandon Marsh tweaked his right knee on a play during the top of the seventh inning of Wednesday’s game against the San Francisco Giants. Wilmer Flores hit a single that took a sudden bounce. Marsh had to fall to his left as he was moving right to prevent the ball from rolling past him. The Phillies are not sure if Marsh will need to go on the injured list. After Thursday’s game, Rob Thomson said Marsh was day-to-day.
- Marsh, for the third straight game, isn’t in the starting lineup again on Saturday. He was out on the field before the game, testing out his knee. – Last updated on April 19 by Bailey Digh
- Ranger Suárez (low back stiffness)
- Status: 15-day injured list; Began rehab assignment on Thursday, April 10.
- Left-hander Ranger Suárez is on the injured list with back stiffness. He dealt with a back issue last year as well. Taijuan Walker has taken his place in the rotation for the time being.
- Suárez threw 54 pitches over four innings for Single-A Clearwater on Wednesday, April 16. He was around 90-93 mph with his fastball. He has not reported any issues with his back. The next step is for Suárez to return to Philadelphia on Friday to throw a bullpen session. His next rehab start will likely be on Tuesday, April 22 in Lehigh Valley. Suárez will likely need at least one more rehab appearance to further build up before rejoining the Phillies. — Last updated on April 17 by Destiny Lugardo
- Andrew Painter (Tommy John surgery)
- Status: Assigned to Clearwater Threshers; Could be pitching in the majors this summer
- Top prospect Andrew Painter should be in line to make his big-league debut in “July-ish” as Phillies president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski put it this offseason. He hasn’t pitched in a regular season game since injuring his elbow during the spring of 2023, but he should be ready to make an impact once he’s up, even in a limited workload.
- Painter, assigned to Low-A Clearwater, pitched three scoreless innings on Friday night, his second start of the year. He threw 49 pitches and allowed three hits and no runs. The right-hander struck out four hitters and walked none. His next start will be Thursday in Clearwater, per Todd Zolecki of MLB.com. Zolecki also notes Painter is scheduled for three more innings/50 pitches and that 120 innings may be his limit for the entire year. — Last Updated April 19 by Bailey Digh
- Weston Wilson (left oblique strain)
- Status: 10-day injured list, will start rehab assignment on Tuesday
- Weston Wilson missed out on a chance to break camp with the Phillies as a bench bat and an option in the outfield and infield due to his strained oblique. He’s a good fit once he’s healthy as a right-handed hitter to help balance out a lefty-heavy club.
- Wilson began a rehab assignment for Single-A Clearwater on April 8. His assignment was transferred to Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Tuesday. In three games, Wilson is 3-for-14 with two walks. The Phillies have until April 28 to activate Wilson and put him on the major-league roster or option him to the minors. — Last updated April 19 by Bailey Digh
