News and Notes: Slugging Guardians Face Paul Skenes Today
News and Notes for Saturday, April 19th, 2025
The Guardians beat the Pirates 10-7 last night. Our Zachary Martin had the recap here.
There were plenty of offensive highlights to go around:
However, Steven Kwan also managed to provide another defensive gem:

Kyle Manzardo had a double and a walk, Jhonkensy Noel had a double in a big spot, Lane Thomas had two singles and hopefully all three are coming out of their respective funks. Gabriel Arias had another two hits in a surprising start at shortstop while Angel Martinez returned at second base, Juan Brito was held out of Columbus’s lineup... coincidence or roster move incoming? You decide.
Cade Smith was sitting around 97 mph and hit 98.7, which is pretty exciting. Good night for Jakob Junis and Tim Herrin to have their rare problems. But, Sewald... he showed why he cannot afford to walk ANY betters.
Next up is Paul Skenes who gave up 5 runs to the Cardinals 11 days ago. He rebounded against the Nationals but I'd say study that Cardinals tape.
AROUND MLB:
The Cubs and Diamondbacks had an old fashioned donnybrook.
The Tigers beat the Royals, and the Twins lost a lead late to the Braves.
Mike Petriello for MLB wrote about the propagation of sinkers in the game. Coincidentally, Tanner Bibee has added a sinker.
