Cincinnati Reds look to pick up pieces on the road in Baltimore

The Orioles are the first stop on a three-city road trip for Cincinnati.

The Cincinnati Reds got their homestand off to a roaring start, first sweeping the Pittsburgh Pirates before welcoming the sputtering Seattle Mariners to town (and taking the series opener from them, too).

Things went sideways from there, as the Reds saw their rally come up just short in a 5-3 loss in the second game of the Seattle series only for the series finale to be a blown roller coaster on the back of poor defense and costly errors. They once again find themselves under .500, and now they’re off to Baltimore to face the Orioles at the start of a three-city, nine-game road trip.

Baltimore, like the Reds, has stumbled out of the gate in 2025, though they, too, have the injury bug on which they can lean for the time being. Superstar Gunnar Henderson missed the first portion of the season before his return, while Colton Cowser is sidelined for another month with a fractured thumb. On the pitching front, they’ve been without Grayson Rodriguez all year due to elbow (and now potentially shoulder) issues, while Zach Eflin just landed on the IL last week with a strained lat.

The end result is that the Orioles have a middling pitching staff and an offense that, despite immense talent, hasn’t quite gelled just yet. They sit at just 8-10 in a loaded AL East, though they’re fresh off their first series victory of the year against the Cleveland Guardians. If anything, it feels like this is a tough time for the Reds to face the O’s, as they’re just now seemingly beginning to put most of their pieces together again.

Perhaps on the plus side is that Baltimore has hit LHP poorly so far this year, their .199/.281/.257 line (and just 1 HR) amounting to a meager 64 wRC+ (25th overall). The Reds will hit them with a pair of LHP starters in this series (and have a solid fleet of LHPs in their bullpen, too). Of course, the Reds will be up against at least one LHP starter in this series, too, and they’re somehow even worse against LHP this year (.146/.253/.252 and a 44 wRC+).

Probable Pitchers

Friday (7:05 PM ET): LHP Andrew Abbott vs. LHP Cade Povich

Saturday (4:05 PM ET): RHP Hunter Greene vs. TBD

Sunday (1:35 PM ET): LHP Nick Lodolo vs. RHP Charlie Morton

How to Watch

All three of the games between the Cincinnati Reds and Baltimore Orioles will be broadcast on FanDuel Sports Ohio, which is streamable sans blackouts in-market this year. Sunday’s game will also be televised on MLB Network, and you can view the FDSNOH feed out of market via MLB.tv.
