WBSC Women's Baseball World Cup Star Alex Hugo to lead historic Women's Pro Baseball League tryout
The Women's Pro Baseball League (WPBL) will hold tryouts in July and August this year, ahead of the 2026 inaugural season. Players who wish to receive an invitation can register online until Monday, May 5.
"The WPBL's summer tryouts mark an important and exciting milestone in women's sports, said Alex Hugo, a Women's Baseball World Cup silver medallist and WPBL Special Advisor. "Female baseball players around the world have been waiting for this moment for over 70 years, and I am honoured to be leading the tryouts for the League."
The WPBL announced that, following the tryouts, the league will invite up to 200 players to the WPBL's Draft in October.
The WPBL plans to play its inaugural season in 2026 with six teams. Justine Siegal, the league's Co-Founder and baseball pioneer, is the first woman to coach a professional men's baseball team and pitch batting practice in Major League Baseball history.
Maybelle Blair, a sports icon and former professional baseball player in the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League, was named Honorary Chair of the WPBL Advisory Board, which includes female trailblazers in sports and business.
Actress Drew Barrymore is a WPBL advocate.
