The Latest Phillies Injury Updates
- Ranger Suárez (back stiffness)
- Status: 15-day injured list
- Ranger Suárez will begin the season on the injured list. He could miss two to three starts, Rob Thomson said during an in-game interview in the Phillies’ 4-2 win over the Detroit Tigers on Sunday, March 23. Taijuan Walker will take his spot in the rotation. This is the second time in three years that Suárez will begin the season on the IL. He missed a month last summer due to lower back soreness.
- Suárez threw a bullpen session on Saturday, Thomson told reporters, including Lochlahn March of the Philadelphia Inquirer. The left-hander threw 26 pitches, and “the report was really good,” said Thomson. His velocity was “good,” too. The Phillies will reassess Suárez tomorrow. His next step, if all goes well, would be an up-down bullpen session. — Last Updated March 29 by Bailey Digh
- Weston Wilson (left oblique strain)
- Status: 10-day injured list, could be back late April or early May
- Weston Wilson was one of the front runners to win the last bench spot as a fourth or fifth right-handed hitting infield/outfield option. He’ll have to wait a little longer to make an impact with the big league club. The 30-year-old will open the season on the injured list with an oblique strain. Wilson felt something while hitting in the batting cages on February 21.
- Wilson will stay in Florida and is expected to begin a minor-league rehab assignment in early April, according to The Athletic’s Matt Gelb. He has progressed to “running, doing defensive drills and taking some light swings.” — Last Updated March 23 by Destiny Lugardo
