A Midwest duel takes place today

Two teams from the Midwest face off today as we approach the final two weeks of Spring Training. Yes, in just 14 days, we’ll watch the White Sox lose games that count.

Reliever Jordan Leasure takes the mound for the 5-12 White Sox this afternoon. Leasure has pitched four innings during Spring Training, amassing seven strikeouts and an ERA of 0.00.

The newest signing, as of yesterday, Travis Jankowski, will be starting in left field. Jankowski agreed to a minor league contract on Wednesday after opting out of a minor league deal with the Cubs. I can’t blame him for opting out with the Cubs, but he would’ve likely fared better on the North Side of town. While his fate is unknown over the next two weeks, today’s lineup will more than likely be the daily starting lineup. Get used to it, I guess.

Jared Koenig gets the start for the 8-9 Brewers. Koenig has only pitched three innings, and has had seven strikeouts as well, but his ERA is a bit more padded (3.00). Christian Yelich is noticeably missing, but is likely getting the day off to continue recovering from the back injury sustained last season.

The game isn’t on TV today, but you can follow along at whitesox.com with MLB Video, or listen to ESPN Chicago 1000. First pitch is at 3:05 p.m. CT.
