Four Rays eligible for Prospect Promotion Incentive (PPI) in 2025
Four Rays players technically have the potential to add Prospect Promotion Incentive eligibility this season. Here’s a quick reminder on how eligibility works, from Baseball America:
The Prospect Promotion Incentive rewards teams for carrying top prospects on Opening Day rosters and keeping them in the major leagues all season as rookies. The PPI initiative was introduced as part of the 2022 Collective Bargaining Agreement between MLB and the players’ union.
A qualifying prospect who factors for a major award will outfit his club with a draft pick after the first round in the next draft. PPI picks have ranged from No. 29 to No. 32 overall in the 2023 and 2024 drafts, carrying bonus pool values of between roughly $2.8 million and $2.9 million.

[To quality, players must be] ranked on at least two of three qualifying Top 100 Prospects rankings—those by Baseball America, ESPN and MLB.com. For PPI eligibility to attach, these qualifying players must accrue at least 172 days of MLB service during the 2025 season. To reach 172 days, players must make Opening Day rosters or be called up within the first two weeks of the season.
The Rays players who meet the pre-season requirements are:
- Xavier Isaac, 1B
- Tre’ Morgan, 1B
- Brayden Taylor, 3B/2B
- Carson Williams, SS
There is some possibility these players contribute to the Rays, as they have all reached Double-A or Triple-A, but it would take an overwhelming performance in Spring Training for that to become a reality.
If anything, it seems more likely we will have the same conversation about these four players next off-season, with an open question as to whether any could be named Rookie of the Year in 2026.
