Guardians News and Notes - Countdown to Opening Day
News and Notes for Thursday, January 2nd, 2025
It is officially 2025 which means that Opening Day is practically around the corner.
Pitchers and Catchers will be reporting in less than two months, signifying the start of Spring Training. If last year was any indicator, expect a good portion of the Cleveland Guardians spring training roster to show up at least a week ahead of time.
In the meantime, with the majority of the holiday season behind us, it should be expected that the hot stove starts heating up again.
MLB released an updated list of available free agents by position. The list for right field is dwindling in options, but there are still a handful of interesting starting pitchers available including Jack Flaherty. The most recent rumors around Flaherty point to him returning to the Orioles, but that is the frustrating thing with the Cleveland front office. Seldom is it revealed that they showed interest prior to a player signing.
MLB Network highlighted José Ramírez and his impressive ability to consistently come in clutch in a two strike situation. A nice reminder of the beauty of a no-trade clause and spending another off-season not having to worry about José being traded.
Tough out with two strikes ♂️@CleGuardians superstar José Ramírez recorded 180 total bases with two strikes this season, the most by any player over the past twenty seasons. pic.twitter.com/GmY9YcnHmc
