But the major championships have their own history of keeping up with the Joneses. Just three years ago, in 2021, the U.S Open purse was set at $12.5 million — the biggest prize pot of all four majors. Two years ago, the 2022U.S. Open purse increased to $17.5 million — a $5 million increase. And last year, the 2023 U.S. Open purse jumped yet again to a whopping total of $20 million, an increase of $2.5 million from the previous year.
