MLB news roundup

Happy Wednesday, Athletics Nation!

There’s been a lot of talk about Lawrence Butler round these parts lately, but “Law Dawg” keeps giving us reasons to stay focused on what may be his budding stardom.

Yesterday, Butler was awarded AL Player of the Week honors for the second time this season. He went 14-for-28 with six home runs to earn the nod. In so doing, he became just the sixth Oakland Athletic to win the award twice in the same season. But Law was hardly content to rest on those laurels.

Butler homered yet again in the first inning of last night’s spectacular walk-off victory over the Mariners, tying the franchise record of eight consecutive games with an extra base hit.

It should be pretty safe to wager that Law will lead off for the A’s in tonight’s Game Three against the Mariners in Oakland, and the way he is crushing the baseball, that franchise XBH record is at great risk of extinction.

Many of us A’s fans are crushed and heartbroken over the franchise’s pending exodus from Oakland, but it may be hard to turn away from the team if Lawrence Butler keeps leading the offensive charge the way he is.
