Dedniel Núñez Returns to Injured List

On Thursday, the New York Mets announced right-handed reliever Dedniel Núñez is returning to the 15-day injured list with right forearm tightness. The Mets recently activated Núñez off the IL with forearm tightness, and he made one appearance on August 24.

Núñez has been arguably the Mets’ best reliever this season with a 2.31 ERA, 0.91 WHIP and 48 strikeouts in 35 innings during his rookie year. The 28-year-old made his major league debut on April 4 of this season.

With Núñez out and closer Edwin Díaz continuing to struggle, manager Carlos Mendoza will have a difficult time finding reliable arms to close out wins in the Mets playoff push.

The Mets are not making a roster move for Thursday, meaning they will play with a 25-player roster, and Tylor Megill will take the Núñez roster spot on Friday.
