Heyman: Corbin Burnes Will Be on Mets Radar

0 5

Orioles ace Corbin Burnes, who will be the top free-agent pitcher this winter, will be coveted by many teams. One of them will be the Mets, according to Jon Heyman of the New York Post and MLB Network.

“I think the Mets are certainly gonna be in play for Corbin Burnes,” Heyman told B/R Walk-Off Wednesday in an interview, adding that it makes sense because Luis Severino and Jose Quintana will be free agents and Sean Manaea is likely to exercise his opt-out clause to become a free agent as well.

“So we’ve got three prime free agents for the Mets and Corbin Burnes is the top free agent pitcher,” Heyman said. “Max Fried, who has been a thorn in their side as well, would be good in New York. Helped the Braves win the World Series, take him away from the Braves. I think he’d be a good candidate for the Mets as well.”

Burnes told The Athletic recently that he had a great relationship with Mets president of baseball operations, David Stearns, from their time together in Milwaukee.

Burnes, 29, is 12-6 with a 3.28 ERA and 1.13 WHIP. He has 146 strikeouts in 159 1/3 innings. The four-time All-Star won the Cy Young Award in 2021.

Fried, 30, is 8-7 with a 3.50 ERA and 1.20 WHIP. The lefty is a two-time All-Star who has spent his entire eight-year career with Atlanta.
