10 Things to Know about the WBSC U-15 Baseball World Cup 2024
The 20th** edition of the WBSC U-15 Baseball World Cup opens in a few days, and here are 10 things you should know about the tournament.
1. Barranquilla and Cartagena will host this World Cup. Edgar Renteria Stadium in Barranquilla and Once de Noviembre Stadium in Cartagena have been selected as the venues.
2. Twelve teams will participate, having been divided into two groups for the Opening Round. Colombia, Dominican Republic, Guam, Italy, Japan, and Puerto Rico are in Group A, and Mexico, Nicaragua, Netherlands, South Africa, Chinese Taipei, and Venezuela are in Group B.
3. USA is the reigning champion but this edition will see a new team crown itself since the Stars and Stripes team is not participating in the tournament.
4. The first edition of the tournament as a U-15 Baseball World Cup was in 2012 in Chihuahua, Mexico
5. Since 2012, the only teams to win the World Champion title in this age bracket are Venezuela, Cuba (2) and USA (2).
6. 50 games will be played in this tournament. The World Championship Final is scheduled for August 25 at the Edgar Renteria in Barranquilla.
7. Every game of the tournament can be followed on WBSC’s OTT platform: Gametime.sport.
9. Big baseball stars, like Luis Arraez or Randy Arozarena, have participated in this tournament.
10. All five continents are represented in this World Cup, confirming that baseball is a global game.
