Mets Minors Recap: Starling Marte, Luke Ritter Go Deep

The highly anticipated Triple-A debut of Mets top prospect Brandon Sproat did not go as planned. Score another one for the insane run-scoring environment of the International League. On the positive side, Luke Ritter and Starling Marte hit long balls.

Triple-A

Worcester Red Sox (52-59) 6, Syracuse Mets (63-47) 3

BOX SCORE

Ritter leads the International League with 81 RBIs (2nd has 74) and is third with 23 home runs.

  • RHP Brandon Sproat 4.2 IP, 7 H, 6 ER, 3 BB, 4 K, 2 HR, 88 pitches/58 strikes
  • LHP Joey Lucchesi (4.94 ERA) 3.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K

Sproat started his outing with two scoreless innings before a rough third inning, where he allowed six runs. He bounced back to stay in the game for another 1 2/3 innings. His fastball was up to 100 mph in the first inning.

Righties Wilkin Ramos and Tyler Zuber each faced only one batter, and both retired the opponent.

Double-A

Somerset Patriots (53-48) Binghamton Rumble Ponies (53-51)

The game was postponed. We will have a photographer and writer at the games this weekend, so stay tuned!

High-A

Hudson Valley Renegades (54-49) 4, Brooklyn Cyclones (49-56) 3, F/10

BOX SCORE

Morabito ranks seventh among all minor leaguers with 49 stolen bases this season.

The 23-year-old De La Cruz has a 2.70 ERA over his last three starts.

Low-A

Bradenton Marauders (44-61) 10, St. Lucie Mets (34-69) 1

BOX SCORE

Marte homered in his second rehab game for the St. Lucie Mets. He played the field for the first time since his injury, going five innings in right field.

The 23-year-old Nunez is a fascinating story, and he showed off impressive stuff in his debut with St. Lucie. Nunez was drafted out of high school in the 29th round back in 2019 by the Padres. He then played in two seasons in the minors as a hitter before getting released. He was eligible to return to college, and he did, with three years of playing at the University of Tampa. He had a .818 OPS and a 3.09 ERA in his final college season. He only pitched in 11 games in college and two scoreless innings with the FCL Mets before his St. Lucie debut.

In his St. Lucie debut, his fastball was up to 95 mph, his slider reached over 3,000 rpms and his changeup had up to 21 inches of vertical break.
