Recapping a historic day in and outside of baseball.

Hello everyone! We’ve entered the month of August, and it’s time to get back to our regular slate of baseball news.

In Mariners news...

  • I know our readership isn’t the type to do something like this but I have to say this anyway: Chill out people, it’s just a game. We support you, Mitch!
  • Shame on Chum for standing Bryce up.
  • That’s what we call consistency!

Around the league...

  • Jackson Holliday’s first career homer came in the form of a grand slam in a big Orioles win over the Blue Jays.
  • Rays second round pick Tyler Bell will forego an opportunity to go pro and will instead enroll at the University of Kentucky. The Rays will receive a compensation pick next year for failing to sign him.
  • Steve Adams at MLB Trade Rumors helpfully explains how teams can still trade for and otherwise acquire players in the month of August — even if the pool is more limited.
  • At least Pedro Grifol does not hold this honor on his own!
  • You’ve got to love the minors.

Anders’ picks...

  • Katie Ledecky is inevitable.
