Royals lose on a Tuesday…again

MLB: Arizona Diamondbacks at Kansas City Royals
Jay Biggerstaff-USA TODAY Sports

That was boring.

Coming into the night, the Royals hadn’t won a game on a Tuesday night since May 21st. That streak continued as Kansas City dropped Game 2 to Arizona 6-2.

The Royals didn’t get off on the right foot in the top of the first. Alec Marsh, in his first start of the second half, loaded the bases with nobody out. The D-backs didn’t struggle to take advantage as they plated three runs on a sacrifice fly and two-run single from Gabriel Moreno.

Kansas City responded in the home half of the first thanks to another run-scoring double from Bobby Witt Jr. The double pushed his second half average to over .800.

The Royals, however, never threatened again. Arizona extended its lead in the fifth on a two-run bomb from Ketel Marte.

Marsh managed to grind through five innings, but Sam Long, Angel Zerpa, James McArthur, and Kris Bubic picked up the final four frames.

Unfortunately, the offense didn’t do much else. Salvador Perez cut the lead to four in the ninth on an RBI-single, but that was it.

The Royals, 56-46, will try and claim the rubber match tomorrow. Michael Wacha will toe the slab at 7:10 p.m. CT.
