New Red Sox Prospect Enters Baseball America’s Top 100 List

Less than a month after Baseball America added Kristian Campbell to its 2024 Top 100 Prospects List, a new Boston Red Sox prospect was added.

The Red Sox drafted Texas A&M product Braden Montgomery with the No. 12 overall pick in the 2024 MLB Draft. The outfielder, who flashed huge potential in his college career, slotted No. 63 in the rankings after joining the Red Sox organization.

“Montgomery has prototypical right field tools with plus raw power as a switch hitter and a 70-grade arm that should make runners think twice about taking an extra bag,” Baseball America wrote. “He’s better as a lefthanded hitter and did have a late-season ankle injury, though that should be more of a brief issue.”

Montgomery is now one of five Boston prospects on the list, with the “Big Three” of Marcelo Mayer (No. 10), Roman Anthony (No. 18) and Kyle Teel (No. 31) at the top of the rankings.

Campbell was originally ranked at No. 89 to start July but dropped to No. 99 after the draft.

Montgomery hasn’t yet signed with the Red Sox, but he is expected to do so soon. After Montgomery was drafted, amateur scouting director Devin Pearson said he would go through medical testing due to his ankle injury before signing.

The 21-year-old put up impressive numbers in his final college season, batting .322 with 85 RBIs and 27 home runs.

While it may be a while until Montgomery is up with the big-league team, he seems to have a lot of promise that Red Sox fans should be excited about.
