Morning Briefing: Marte Provides Insight on Injured Knee

Good morning, Mets fans!

Tim Healey of Newsday Sports spoke with Starling Marte about his recent knee injury. Per Marte, his knee “could’ve given out at any moment.”

Meanwhile, down in Miami, Luis Severino and the New York Mets held off the Marlins for 1-0 victory in Miami to even the series. The rubber match will be Sunday at 1:40 PM ET as Christian Scott (0-2, 4.36 ERA) and the Mets take on Trevor Rogers (1-9, 4.72 ERA) and the Marlins in the final game of the series.

Kodai Senga struggled in his Saturday rehab start at Triple-A Syracuse. His final line: 3+ IP, 8 H, 5 ER, 3 BB, 1 K, 79 pitches/47 strikes. His fastball sat between 94.1-95.7 mph.

According to Jim Callis of MLB.com and MLB Pipeline, the Mets’ 10th round draft pick, Brenadan Girton, has agreed to sign for $122,500 (slot 293 = $184,300).

Per Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com, Mike Trout is headed to Arizona where he will spend the next two days facing live pitching at the Angels’ spring training complex. He is expected to start a rehab assignment at Triple-A Salt Lake on Monday and could return to the Angels as soon as Thursday when the team is at home to face the Oakland Athletics.

According to Dan Hayes of MLB.com, Carlos Correa is being placed on the injured list with right plantar fasciitis. Chris Paddack is also headed to the injured list with a right forearm strain. The Twins have in turn promoted Edouard Julien and activated Austin Martin off of the injured list.

Per Jon Heyman of The New York Post, Johnny Cueto and the Angels are in agreement on a minor league deal.

The Toronto Blue Jays announced the following roster transactions on Saturday:

  • UTIL Addison Barger was recalled from Triple-A Syracuse
  • Shortstop Bo Bichette was placed on the 10-day injured list with a right calf strain.

Kennedi Landry of MLB.com reported that Max Scherzer said he felt a little arm fatigue in his Saturday start and did not want to push it. The Rangers will monitor Scherzer in the days to come, but at the moment aren’t concerned, but proceeding with caution.

Per Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic, Clayton Kershaw is expected to come off of the injured list and start on Thursday. Tyler Glasnow will start on Wednesday for the Dodgers.
