Emmanuel Clase closes out all-star game that David Fry tied up

MLB: All Star Game-National League at American League
Kevin Jairaj-USA TODAY Sports

Morning N&N for July 17

Steven Kwan was the first Guardian to appear in the 2024 MLB All-star game, but he was far from the last.

Batting leadoff for the American League, Kwan faced off against Paul Skenes, who was dressed as a member of the 2011 Marlins. Along with his teammates, Kwan was dressed as Infield.

Kwan popped up. He later walked before being replaced by Riley Greene. Greene dressed as sand was confusing.

Anyways, Kwan would score after his walk when his future Guardians teammate Juan Soto hit a 2-run double. Soto also crossed home plate in the inning when his future teammate David Fry singled him in. This tied the game up. The AL’s 3 runs took much more work than the NL’s “Just let Shohei hit a 3-run bomb” idea.

Some other Guardians you might have heard of played, too. Jose Ramirez was 0-for-2; Josh Naylor was 0-for-1. Naylor was also stepped on while being somewhat clumsy near the 1B bag. He appeared to be fine afterwards. Phew.

Jarren Durran homered to give the AL a 5-3 lead, and since the AL had Smith-Herrin-Gaddis-Clase impersonators to pitch the rest of the game, that was the game.

One wasn’t an impersonator.

American League 5, Shohei Ohtani 3.
