Nimmo’s Milestone Game Caps Strong June

0 0

For the Mets to find success, whether in the current season or the coming years, Brandon Nimmo‘s contributions will be crucial. Despite the Mets’ 10-5 loss to the Astros, Nimmo’s performance on Sunday highlighted his importance to the franchise. His strong showing capped off a month where he and the Mets rejuvenated their season, indicating a promising future with Nimmo playing a key role.

On Sunday, Nimmo delivered a clutch performance, reaching a significant career milestone. With the Mets down 4-2 and two outs in the bottom of the seventh, Nimmo faced an 0-2 count against Bryan Abreu. He took advantage of a fastball down the middle, launching a 412-foot, two-run home run to left-center, tying the game. This moment brought the Mets back into the game and marked Nimmo’s 100th career home run.

Nimmo would also drive in a run later to tie the game at five, totaling three hits and driving in three during Sunday’s series finale versus the Astros. Nimmo, who made his MLB debut in 2016 after being selected by the Mets in the first round of the 2011 MLB Draft, became a regular in the lineup by 2018.

However, injuries and the COVID-19 pandemic limited his appearances until 2022. Since then, he has played in 379 of the Mets’ 405 games. Nimmo hit 47 home runs in his first six seasons but has already tallied 53 over the last three seasons.

Nimmo’s performance in April and May was lackluster, with a slash line of .222/.340/.411 in May and .226/.390/.387 in April. However, he turned things around in June, hitting .315/.406/.598 with six home runs and an OPS over 1.000. This resurgence highlights Nimmo’s potential to be a key player in the Mets’ success moving forward.
