Cleveland Guardians minor league recap for Thursday, June 27, 2024

Akron RubberDucks 11, Altoona Curve 6

Box Score · RubberDucks improve to 39-32

Akron’s offense teed off on Wednesday and no one was more impressive than C.J. Kayfus. Kayfus went 2-for-5 and both hits were home runs. Kayfus already has hit six home runs since being promoted to Double-A, which is a big reason why he currently sports a 1.232 OPS. Maybe it’s time to keep the rocket strapped to his back moving on?

Kayfus wasn’t even close to the only offensive standout. Alexfri Planez went 3-for-5 with a double, a triple and three runs batted in.

Kahlil Watson went 2-for-3 with two walks and a double, Petey Halpin doubled and walked, Joe Lampe tripled and walked, Milan Tolentino went 2-for-4 with a walk and Yordys Valdez went 2-for-5.

Starting pitcher Aaron Davenport had one of his most human outings of the year, allowing five runs on eight hits in five innings while walking three and striking out one. Trey Benton earned the win with two scoreless one-hit innings while striking out three.

Lake County Captains 4, Great Lakes Loons 2

Box Score · Captains improve to 44-27

Tremendous pitching limited Great Lakes to just two hist in Lake County’s victory on Wednesday. Starting pitcher Zach Jacobs allowed both runs on both hits in his four innings of work, striking out five and walking two.

Jake Miller, Jay Driver and Zane Morehouse proceeded to toss five no-hit scoreless frames to earn a win, a hold and a save respectively.

Lake County only had four hits themselves, but two of them were home runs as Jorge Burgos went 1-for-3 with a solo shot and a walk and Zac Facia went 1-for-2 with a bomb and a walk.

Alex Mooney, Cooper Ingle, Isaiah Greene and Angel Genao all got on base and then proceeded to steal one.

Lynchburg Hillcats 6, Carolina Mudcats 3

Box Score · Hillcats improve to 40-31

After two straight games of putting up 0-fers, it was time for Ralphy Velazquez and Jaison Chourio to help carry Lynchburg’s offense again.

Valazquez teed off, going 2-for-5 with a two-run home run and a double on Wednesday, also scoring a run.

Chourio followed suit, going 2-for-5 with two doubles, three runs batted in, a run scored and a stolen base.

Tommy Hawke reached base three times, going 2-for-4 with a walk and a stolen base. Christian Knapczyk walked twice and stole a base. Wuilfredo Antunez doubled, walked and stole a base and Robert Lopez went 1-for-3 with a walk.

That was more than enough offense for the two pitchers who worked Wednesday’s game for Lynchburg. Yorman Gomez allowed three runs on seven hits with five strikeouts and a walk in 4 23 innings.

Wardquellin Vasquez earned the victory with 4 13 scoreless innings of long relief, striking out five and walking one while allowing three hits.

Triple-A Columbus had its game postponed due to rain.
