Cleveland Guardians minor league recap for Monday and Wednesday, June 6, 2024

Columbus Clippers 1, Omaha Storm Chasers 6

Box Score · Clippers fall to 32-43

Jaime Arias had a forgettable season debut with Columbus after getting promoted from Akron last week. Arias gave up one run in the first inning, then couldn’t get out of the second inning, giving up five additional runs. His final line was six earned runs allowed on five hits with three walks and zero strikeouts in 1 23 innings.

The bullpen was downright phenomenal the rest of the way, not allowing another run over the game’s final 7 13 innings, but the offense couldn’t make up for the lousy start. Randy Labaut and John Doxakis both pitched three innings of scoreless relief.

There wasn’t much to talk about offensively. Juan Brito had the best day at the plate, going 1-for-3 with a double and a hit by pitch. Myles Straw and Estevon Florial both went 1-for-3 with a walk while Christian Cairo went 1-for-3 with a stolen base.

Akron RubberDucks 4, Altoona Curve 3

Box Score · RubberDucks improve to 38-32

Joe Lampe and Micael Ramirez led the way for Akron’s offense on Tuesday. Lampe went 1-for-3 with a two-run homer and a walk.

Ramirez went 2-for-4 and also homered. Several other RubberDucks had big games as Petey Halpin went 2-for-4 with a walk and Gabriel Rodriguez went 2-for-4 with a double. C.J. Kayfus also doubled.

Ryan Webb had a ho-hum performance on the mound, allowing three runs on six hits in four innings while striking out five and walking two. The bullpen, however, was sensational as Davis Sharpe, Tyler Thornton, Jared Jones, Lenny Torres Jr. and Jack Leftwich combined for six shutout innings of relief to give Akron a chance to rally for the victory.

Lake County Captains 8, Great Lakes Loons 3

Box Score · Captains improve to 43-27

Tuesday was Tugboat day in Lake County and starting pitcher Matt Wilkinson delivered. Wilkinson allowed one run on four hits with four strikeouts and a walk in four innings pitched.

Adam Tulloch chipped in two scoreless innings of relief to earn the win.

Offensively, it was the Angel Genao show as Genao went 3-for-5 with a double and a stolen base.

Jonah Advincula was perfect at the plate, going 1-for-1 with two walks, three stolen bases and a sacrifice fly.

Jake Fox went 2-for-4, Cooper Ingle went 1-for-4 with a walk, Jose Devers went 1-for-3 with a walk and Guy Lipscomb tripled.

Lynchburg Hillcats 3, Carolina Mudcats 5

Box Score · Hillcats fall to 39-31

Alex Clemmey was the standout performer for Lynchburg on Tuesday. He dominated Carolina to the tune of four scoreless innings with two hits, two walks and six strikeouts.

Unfortunately, Jack Jasiak couldn’t get out of the fifth inning, allowing five runs along the way and that was all Carolina needed.

Offensively, Esteban Gonzalez went 2-for-4 with a double and a stolen base. Wuilfredo Antunez also had a multi-hit game, going 2-for-4. Rafael Ramirez Jr. and Juan Benjamin both reached base safely twice, going 1-for-3 with a walk apiece.

ACL Guardians 4, ACL Brewers 2 (F/8)

Box Score · Guardians improve to 17-22

Welbyn Francisca and Luis Merejo both went 2-for-4 from the top two spots in the lineup to set the table nicely for the ACL Guardians.

Yaikel Mijares and Barrett Riebock both reached base safely twice, going 1-for-3 with a walk with Riebock also stealing a base.

High school arm Jacob Bresnahan is turning into a star before our eyes as he had another scoreless starting pitching performance. Bresnahan gave up two hits and three walks while striking out seven in 4 23 innings pitched, just missing qualifying for the win.

DSL CLE Goryl 5, DSL Brewers 11

Box Score · Goryl improve to 12-5

The bullpen failed DSL CLE Goryl, allowing seven runs over the final four innings in a tough loss.

Dauri Fernandez and Brayan Guedez both had multi-hit games for CLE Goryl. Guedez also stole a base. Estivel Morilla tripled and walked while Yeiferth Castillo doubled and walked.

DSL CLE Mendoza 2, DSL LAD Bautista 0 (Game 1)
DSL CLE Mendoza 13, DSL LAD Bautista 7 (Game 2)

Game 1 Box Score · Game 2 Box Score · Mendoza improve to 8-8

CLE Mendoza got a tremendous pitching performance from Manuel Osorio in game one. He tossed 4 13 scoreless innings of one-hit ball with four strikeouts and a walk. The 18-year-old Venezuelan has a 1.29 ERA and a 1.00 WHIP through four starts this season spanning 14 innings.
