The Royals drop 2 out of 3 in LA.

The Dodgers have a $300 million payroll, and it paid off today when their big stars carried them to victory in a 3-0 win. Shohei Ohtani homered twice, Freddie Freeman homered once, and Tyler Glasnow gave them seven shutout innings to give the Dodgers the series win.

Royals starter Brady Singer found trouble in the first inning from the Dodgers stars when he walked Shohei Ohtani and Freddy Freeman singled. But Will Smith grounded into a double play to end the inning, keeping the game scoreless. Singer worked around two more baserunners in the second, but couldn’t avoid trouble in the third when Ohtani blasted a solo home run to put the Dodgers on the board.

Singer cruised the next few innings, assisted by a terrific defensive play by MJ Melendez.

In the sixth, Ohtani got him again, sending a hanging slider into the seats for his 19th home run of the year. Freddie Freeman made it back-to-back solo shots with his 10th home run to make it 3-0 Dodgers. Singer would exit after six innings and and four strikeouts with two walks. Of his 90 pitches, 60 were strikes, and he did mix up his repertoire more with 17 four-seamers and 8 change ups.

The Royals mustered little offense against Tyler Glasnow, the National League strikeout leader. In the fourth, Bobby Witt Jr. reached on a slow roller in the infield for a base hit, then stole second. Vinnie Pasquantino walked to put two runners on, but Glasnow retired Salvador Perez and Adam Frazier to end the threat.

The Royals fall to 41-32 and will be off tomorrow before heading to Oakland to begin a three-game set agains the A’s. On Tuesday they will send Alec Marsh to the mound against Hogan Harris for an 8:40 CT start.
