It’s DeLoach time, baby.

Hello everyone! We’ve got some daytime baseball today with the M’s wrapping up their series in the Bronx. Here’s what you need to know as you get your day started.

In Mariners news...

  • Late last night, the M’s completed a minor swap with the Orioles, acquiring right-handed reliever Mike Baumann and minor league catcher Michael Pérez in exchange for Triple-A catcher Blake Hunt.
  • Chris Young at MLB Network provided a detailed breakdown of how the Mariners managed to read Clarke Schmidt’s pitch tipping on Tuesday.
  • The Mariners filled the last spot on their 40-man roster by adding left-handed pitcher Jhonathan Díaz — enabling them to keep him in the org rather than having him opt out. Díaz seems to be the team’s 7th starter as far as depth is concerned.

Around the league...

  • Padres infielder Xander Bogaerts is hitting the injured list with a fractured shoulder and seems likely to miss most of the season while he recovers.
  • Yankees owner Hal Steinbrenner sees the team payroll going down in the coming seasons, which does not bode well for their efforts to retain Juan Soto longterm.
  • The White Sox have called up former Mariners outfield prospect Zach DeLoach, who made his MLB debut last night.
  • Tyler Kepner at The Athletic has the story on the founder of Uni Watch, Paul Lukas, who is stepping away from the biz after 25 years. ($)
