Bryson Stott hits big triple to spark Phillies offense, clinch series win in Miami

Bryson Stott pulled a modest 89.9-mph ground ball, just inside the line enough to bound over the first-base bag and just hard enough to reach the right-field corner.
Batting with the bases loaded and two outs in a tie game, Stott cleared the bases in the top of the sixth with a perfectly placed ground-ball triple, starting the offensive explosion that lifted the Phillies to a 8-3 victory against the Marlins at loanDepot Park on Saturday afternoon. Behind Stott’s timely poke and six strong innings from right-hander Taijuan Walker, Philadelphia (28-12) clinched a series victory in Miami and will go for a three-game sweep on Sunday.

Walker allowed one run on eight hits with some help from his defense to nab some baserunners. Trailing 1-0 entering the sixth inning, the Phillies tied the game on an RBI single from J.T. Realmuto. Alec Bohm later singled and Nick Castellanos followed with a walk to set up Stott with all bases occupied.
Stott delivered for Philadelphia, his three-run, three-base knock giving the Phillies a 4-1 lead. They only continued to tack on in the eighth inning, providing plenty of cushion for the bullpen.
Highlights
- Realmuto showed off his arm behind the plate in the early innings, throwing out two would-be base stealers in Jazz Chisholm Jr. in the first and Vidal Bruján in the second.
- Bruján got the Phillies back, however, in the bottom of the fifth as he hit a home run to right-center field off Walker to strike first for the Marlins.
- The Phillies responded with their big sixth inning, as Realmuto plated Whit Merrifield with a single to set up Stott’s game-winning hit.
- Stott added his fourth RBI of the game in the eighth inning as he drove in another run with a single. Cristian Pache then hit an RBI single with Johan Rojas adding a two-run single behind him to extend the lead to seven runs.
- Phillies reliever José Ruiz allowed a two-run home run to Otto Lopez in the bottom of the ninth inning before wrapping up the inning to finish the 8-3 win.
Notes
- Bryce Harper appeared to tweak or hurt something — possibly his back — on his first swing in his first at-bat. His next two swings looked a bit uncomfortable, but Harper stayed in the game and his at-bats seemed to get better as the game progressed
- Cristian Pache has been hot in Miami. He went 3-for-4 after going 2-for-5 with a double on Friday.
- Realmuto was removed at catcher in favor of Garrett Stubbs after the Phillies went up big in the eighth inning.
