Rays 1, White Sox 4: Rays win streak ends as offense goes quiet

MLB: Chicago White Sox at Tampa Bay Rays

Does this mean we have to take the City Connects off?

The Rays fell to the Chicago White sox 4-1 at Tropicana Field to fall back to .500 on the season and end the electric City Connect win streak.

Rays starter Aaron Civale went 4 23 innings giving up two runs on five hits, while White Sox starter Chris Flexen had another solid day against the Rays with six innings allowing just one run striking out eight.

The game got off to a relatively slow start, with both teams combining for just one hit through the first three innings (thankfully Staats, BA, and Doug kept us all entertained).

The White Sox would finally present a threat in the fourth inning with runners on first and third with two outs, however an Andrew Benintendi pop up would eliminate the threat. The Rays dugout also kept us entertained with Taj Bradley being the victim of a ‘gum cup’ prank

The Rays would return back with a threat of their own, putting runners on first and second with one out the following frame. Isaac Paredes would take advantage of that, ripping a double over the glove of Benintendi to bring in a run and give the Rays a 1-0 lead.

It wouldn’t take long for the Sox to return the favor, with Paul Dejong crushing a two-run home run to left field to make it 2-1 in the top of the fifth. The home run is the eighth given up by Civale in the 2024 season.

The following inning in the top of the sixth would be where Chicago would take a sizeable lead, with Tommy Pham and Brian Ramos each notching RBI singles to extend the lead to 4-1.

The Rays would finally put a response together in the bottom of the seventh as back-to-back walks put two runners on with one out, but a frustrating and odd double play would once again send the SkyRays packing.

The Rays would not put up a fight in the eighth or ninth and a 4-6-3 double play would seal the Rays fate and the final score at 4-1.

The Rays take an off day tomorrow then get set to face the Yankees for a three game weekend series. First pitch on Friday is set for 6:50.
