Noob Jonathan Cannon and the boys attempt to do the impossible and win a third game

UPDATE: Well, Mother Nature did not cooperate tonight, and thus we get two games on Wednesday.

Happy Tuesday, White Sox friends, and happy trifecta-attempt day. That’s right, the South Siders are attempting the impossible by checks notes trying to win a third game of the season, in the second half of April.

Twenty-three-year-old Jonathan Cannon, the towering 6´6´´ righty from Triple-A Charlotte, is making his MLB debut this evening. This guy’s got a nice 53% ground ball rate and throws six different pitches, which, if he sticks around, may bring down the White Sox staff 4.78 ERA. Slightly.

To make room for Cannon on the active roster, the club demoted southpaw Jared Shuster, possibly counterintuitive given his 1.42 ERA over 6 1⁄3 innings. Must be one of them high-IQ moves from baseball genius Chris Getz. To make room for Cannon on the 40-man roster, the team designated $2 million bonus baby Josimar Cousín for assignment.

If the White Sox are ahead tonight, and the threatening thunderstorms postpone the game before the halfway mark, it will be official that even the gods hate the White Sox (although, if true, can you blame them?).

Here’s your lineup:

And for those pesky Royal Blue Boys:

Brady Singer is 2-0, so maybe we do want the thunderstorms.

Kansas City is 6-6 against teams that aren’t the White Sox. If they take the AL Central title this year, at least we’ve contributed to a title!

First pitch is at 6:40 p.m. CST, with thunderstorms forecasted to begin at 6 p.m., so there will likely be a delay, if not a complete postponement. Tune into NBC Sports Chicago to watch, ESPN 1000 to listen, and both at the same time to miss Jason Benetti.
