[Baseball] BENU Adds to Streak With 4 More Wins
Benedictine Mesa rolled through four opponents last week to extend its win streak to 21 games. The Redhawks, ranked No. 24 in the latest NAIA Top 25 Poll, beat No. 21 Arizona Christian before sweeping a three-game California Pacific Conference series against Embry-Riddle and improve to 9-0 in conference play and 24-7 overall. In Tuesday's non-conference matchup between two Top 25 teams, BENU and cross-town rival ACU were tied entering the top of the 9th when the Redhawks erupted for 12 runs on nine hits to blow the game open against the Firestorm. With a total of 24 hits—nine for extra bases—many BENU batters had stellar performances at the plate. Travis Reaves went 5-for-7 with five runs scored and four RBI, Orlando Lorduy went 4-for-7 with three runs and three RBI, and Kevin Fitzgerald, Dylan Bangs, and Carlos Parra each had three hits. In the series with ERAU, Anthony Sortino finished with seven hits in 12 trips to the plate, scoring twice and driving in five.
