KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Senior Emad Bashir-Mohammed continues to rake in the awards, as he's now been selected as the NAIA Men's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week, the national office announced today (Jan. 12).

Bashir-Mohammed snags this honor after also winning the KCAC Men's Indoor Track weekly award by finishing first in the one mile run at this past weekend's Friends University First Chance Qualifier at Wichita State University.

The Denver, Colo. native's winning time of 4:27.03 is first in the KCAC this season and 17th in the NAIA.

Bashir-Mohammed anchored the mile leg of the distance medley relay to help the Falcons finish first in the event. The 10:23.27 mark is tops in both the KCAC and NAIA.

"Emad has had a great year, dominating a fall of cross country and now continuing his success into this indoor track season," said Friends track & field head coach Henry Brun.

"Whenever he steps on the track, I know that something special can happen because he is disciplined and he is a competitor. It is always a great honor to have an athlete represented as National Athlete of the Week and I am proud of the work that Emad has put into his training and performances so far this year. The goal is to keeping building!"

As Brun alluded to, Bashir-Mohammed is picking up right where he left off from his stellar cross country season, which featured winning multiple races and includes finishing on top at the KCAC championship meet along with a fifth-place showing at the NAIA national meet.

Mohammed and the Falcons are next scheduled to compete at the All Kansas Invite on Jan. 22 at Washburn University in Topeka, Kan.
