[Outdoor Track & Field] Fye Named Director of Track & Field/Cross Country, Harsin Named ...

Doane University Director of Athletics Mark Wateska has announced the promotion of Ed Fye to Director of Track & Field and Cross Country for the Tigers. Fye will continue on as head coach of both the men's and women's track & field programs while having oversight of the track & field and cross country programs.

"We are pleased to name Ed Fye as the Director of Track & Field and Cross Country," Wateska said. "In this role, Coach Fye will continue as the Head Track & Field Coach and have complete oversight of the entire Track & Field and Cross Country programs. He is a proven leader, mentor, recruiter, and coach. We look forward to continued success with our track & field and cross country programs under Coach Fye's leadership."

The current calendar year has been a strong one for the programs with the men's outdoor track & field team winning the NAIA National Championship and both cross country teams having appeared in the NAIA national poll this fall with the women currently receiving votes.

Additionally, Fye has announced a position hire following the departure of Aaron Fuller, who was named head coach at Simpson College (Iowa) in August. Returning to Doane as an assistant coach is Darren Harsin ('83), who was a NAIA National Champion in the 800-meter run for the Tigers.

Harsin most recently served as boys and girls track & field coach and cross country coach at Blair High School. He joined the Bears in 1994 after stops at Oakland-Craig High School and Millard South High School. During his high school coaching days, he coached football, cross country, and track & field. Harsin coached 21 student-athletes to track & field state championships.

While at Doane, Harsin was a multiple-time NAIA All-American while competing in the 800m run, 400m hurdles, and the 4x400m relay.

"I'm excited to bring Darren back to Doane," Fye commented. "He has coached several years at the high school level and has become a great technician. He also brings a special gift to our program, being a certified mental health counselor, which will benefit our student-athletes."
