[Women's Tennis] Women's Tennis Edged in GPAC Title Match

Doane Women's Tennis had their historic season come to a close in the GPAC Tournament as the Tigers finished with runner-up honors. Doane opened the tournament with a bye and advanced to the finals with a 4-0 win over Midland. In the championship, the Tigers were edged out in a heart-breaking, 4-3 loss to Morningside.

Against Midland, the Tigers won two doubles matches to secure the first point. Amber Weston (FR/Mead, Colo.) and Brylee Lauby (JR/Lexington, Neb.) won at 1-doubles while Huong Ngo (SO/Crete, Neb.) and Payton Stalder (JR/Omaha, Neb.) claimed the 3-doubles match. Ava Macke (JR/Omaha, Neb.) and Liz van der Torre (SO/Greeley, Colo.) did not finish their match with the doubles point already decided. In singles action, Macke secured the first point as her match finished with a forfeit win. Weston won at 1-singles and Makayla Rice (SR/Lincoln, Neb.) won at 6-singles to close out the victory as the remaining three matches went unfinished.

In the GPAC Championship match, Morningside took the early lead by winning two of the three doubles matches. The 3-doubles match saw the Mustangs take the final four games to win the set, 7-5. In singles action, Doane picked up wins at 1, 2, and 4-singles. Two matches that went against the Tigers were at 3-singles where Lauby was edged out in a tie-break in both the first and third sets. At 6-singles, Rice was edged in a third set tie-break.

Doane closed the season with a school-record for wins as they finished with a 15-6 overall record and a conference regular season championship, the program's first.
